HOW SEO HAS CHANGED OVER THE LAST DECADE

Just like anything involving digital media, the Internet, and the world wide web, search engine optimization has changed greatly over the last decade. From just a few years ago, when Google and others seemed to be fledgling companies trying to make a name for themselves, to today where these companies are top-flight, and major industry influencers, search engine optimization has come a long way.

But whats the evolution look like, and where has it come? Let’s review some of the drivers of search engine optimization changes, as well as its evolution from start to what it looks like in this day and age.

A Better understanding of the Internet

First and foremost, the Internet itself has come quite a long way when you think about it; from the days of AOL and dial-up Internet services, to today’s age of seamless mobile technology, cloud computing, and more, the Internet has become quite the force in and of itself.

Related to that, search engine optimization has employed a great number of these tools and technologies to better understand how the Internet works. And, over time, these search engines in question have of course better revolutionized and understood search in and of itself, leading to improved targeting for marketers and businesses, and better search results for the people who use the Internet seeking information for themselves.

A Better understanding of people’s search patterns

Related to this idea of a more understood and better used Internet, search engines have taken years to understand better what people are searching for online, and how they are using search to accomplish that goal and idea. That is, Google and others know better today than ever before what people search for, and what they are looking to find.

With that, SEO has become far more tightly defined and technical, so that searchers online get the ideal responses to their queries and are given exactly what they are looking for when it comes to using Google and other search engines. This evolution has simply revolved around the time and care to understand how people search and use the web, from social media and the semantic web, to the rest of the Internet itself.

Social Media, Silly!

Social media has played a huge role in search and search engine optimization, jumping from an impersonal sharing of pertinent information, to a highly personal ability for people to search relative to what their friends and family like and enjoy. As such, social media has driven SEO to become more personable, personal, and attentive to people’s patterns, habits, friends, and social circles online.

In doing so, social media has grown and developed SEO into more of a personal and responsive product, which will be forever changing as social media continues to evolve in and of itself.

Only time will tell, but it seems that like the rest of the Internet, SEO will constantly be evolving for the better, only to deliver
better and better results and more applicable answers to search engine questions in the future.  To answer your questions about SEO just contact Mashed Up and an SEO / SMO specialist will assist you.

Your are certainly correct Jimmy! Use the auto industry analogy, vehicles change, safety feature improve, technology improves the list goes on. If you don't keep up with the 'in the know' you could lose your top ranking fast. Good thing we have a straight forward company like yours to help navigate the ever changing climate of algorithms and search engine optimization.

This reminds me of the old search engines I used to use from the early 90s. Lycos, Excite, Hotbot, and Yahoo!. How far we've come.
